Kuala Lumpur:Negeri Sembilan: The Negeri Sembilan Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) has reiterated that Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir remains the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, DKU secretary Raja Norazli Raja Nordin confirmed that Tuanku Muhriz was elected by the Undangs and proclaimed as the 11th Yang Dipertuan Besar on December 29, 2008, with his official installation taking place on October 26, 2009, in accordance with the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959 (UUTKNS).
Raja Norazli stated that Tuanku Muhriz continues to fulfill the role and serves as chairman of the DKU under Article 19. The position can only become vacant if the Undangs legally require him to abdicate following a full enquiry as specified under Articles 10 and 29. He emphasized that none of the legal requirements for a vacancy have been met, and Tuanku Muhriz has been actively performing his duties since April 19.
He clarified that Article 11, which concerns electing a successor, cannot be invoked unless the office is vacant. The DKU does not recognize any other individual as holding the position, and Tuanku Muhriz's tenure can only be ended through the procedures outlined in the UUTKNS 1959.
Regarding the affairs of Luak Sungei Ujong, Raja Norazli explained that Tuanku Muhriz did not interfere in the matter during the April 17 sitting. The DKU received a complaint from the Telaga Undang of Luak Sungei Ujong about Mubarak Thahak @ Dohak, who was dismissed according to local customs. The dismissal was recognized by the DKU as consistent with Article 14(3), and no objections were raised after the decision was announced.
Raja Norazli further noted that other dismissals and appointments were carried out according to the customs of their respective Luaks. Notably, Maarof Mat Rashad was dismissed from Luak Jelebu, and Abdul Rahim Yasin was not officially appointed as Undang for Luak Rembau due to incomplete ceremonial procedures. The current Undang positions for various Luaks were also detailed, with some vacancies noted.
The DKU maintained its stance that any document claiming Tuanku Muhriz's removal was unconstitutional and had no effect. The DKU continues to recognize Tuanku Muhriz as Yang Dipertuan Besar and Speaker of the Dewan, urging all civil servants to follow lawful protocols and calling for respect for court proceedings and public order.
