Yong Peng:A 16-year-old female student was found dead after being discovered unconscious and covered in blood at a school in Yong Peng.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, police arrested a 16-year-old male suspect around 7 pm in the Yong Peng area, approximately an hour after they were alerted to the incident. The Johor police chief, Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad, stated that the suspect is being held for six days to assist in the murder investigation.
Authorities were notified by a member of the public at around 5.50 pm when the victim was discovered in the school hall with injuries to her head and body. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy was conducted at Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital in Batu Pahat.
The suspect was apprehended by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Johor Contingent Police Headquarters, alongside the Batu Pahat District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division. Initial checks revealed that the suspect did not have a prior criminal record, and items such as a mobile phone, a set of clothes, and a pair of slippers were seized.
The suspect was also brought before the Batu Pahat Magistrate's Court for a remand application. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries severe penalties, including the possibility of the death penalty or imprisonment for 30 to 40 years, along with at least 12 strokes of whipping if the death penalty is not imposed.
The police chief noted that the motive and cause of the incident remain under investigation, urging the public to refrain from speculation or comments that could interfere with the investigation.
