Tourism Malaysia Launches Photo Hunt 2025 with RM100,000 in Prizes

Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), through Tourism Malaysia, has announced the ‘Malaysia Photo Hunt 2025’ competition. This photo and video contest, running from June 1 to August 31, aims to boost the promotion of Malaysian tourism destinations in anticipation of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (TMM2026).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan highlighted that the competition is open to Malaysians, foreign residents, and international visitors, with a total prize pool of RM100,000. The prizes include RM15,000 for the photo category and RM25,000 for the video category for phone users, as well as RM25,000 and RM35,000 for the photo and video categories for camera users, respectively.

Participants are required to submit their photos or videos online along with receipts proving travel activities, such as bookings for accommodation, tickets to tourist attractions, or domestic transport tickets dated between January 1 and August 31, 2025. This initiative is designed to creatively boost the country’s tourism promotion efforts and encourage visitors to showcase Malaysia’s beauty through social media.

The announcement was made during the launch event at the Malaysia Tourism Centre (MaTIC), where Khairul Firdaus’s speech was delivered by MOTAC Deputy Secretary-General (Culture) Datuk Mohd Yusri Mohd Yusoff.

Tourism Malaysia is also conducting a ‘Fam Trip’ program for local and ASEAN influencers from June 13 to 15, with sponsorship from Perodua providing 10 cars. This effort aims to introduce lesser-known tourist destinations to a broader audience.

At a press conference, Tourism Malaysia Deputy Director-General (Promotion II) Lee Thai Hung expressed hope that the competition would offer exposure and promote less-known destinations, developing them into new attractions for international tourists.

The competition is supported by strategic partners including Canon, Sony, Samsung, OPPO, and Huawei. The first 2,000 entries will have the chance to win an exclusive mystery prize from Tourism Malaysia. Results will be announced in October, with a special exhibition showcasing selected works planned as part of the TMM2026 promotional campaign.
