Tiffin Carrier Becomes Symbol Of Appreciation For Pahang’s ‘Red Heroes’

Pahang: A familiar household item, the mangkuk tingkat, is taking on a special role this World Firefighters' Day, as the tradition of sending meals in tiered tiffin carriers is repurposed to express appreciation and support for firefighters on duty.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the initiative by the Fire and Rescue Department's Women Officers and Firefighters' Wives Association (PERISMA) Pahang features a special edition tiffin carrier in recognition of firefighters' round-the-clock commitment to public safety.

PERISMA Pahang chairperson Datin Suraya Jusoh said the tradition-inspired effort has resonated with the public. 'When we create something unique, especially related to the fire service, people want to own it. It helps build support for our 'red heroes' while reflecting our appreciation,' she told Bernama.

The tiffin carrier, also known as siya, incorporates design elements representing women firefighters, highlighting their role within the rescue force. Suraya said the second-edition tiffin carrier, following an earlier release during Aidilfitri, has drawn strong interest since being promoted on social media last week, including orders from Brunei.

'Initial production was small, but demand grew quickly after it went viral, and we had to increase output,' she said, adding that the item is priced at RM29.90 per unit. Proceeds will go towards PERISMA's welfare programmes, particularly for firefighters' families in Pahang.

She also expressed appreciation to fire personnel and officers who contributed to the initiative's success, noting that the strong public response reflects growing recognition of firefighters' sacrifices while strengthening ties between the force and the community. World Firefighters' Day, observed annually on May 4, honours the sacrifices and service of firefighters in ensuring public safety.
