Home Ministry Pushes for Expedited Construction of Pulau Malawali Radar Site

Kota kinabalu: The Home Ministry (KDN) is urging for the swift construction of a Remote Sensor Site (RSS) on Pulau Malawali, as stated by its minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. The initiative is aimed at bolstering the nation's ability to detect maritime threats, particularly along Sabah's east coast.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Seri Saifuddin highlighted the significance of the RSS during the KDN Monthly Assembly. He emphasized that the radar's capabilities are critical for providing essential information on maritime security and threats. The minister stressed the urgency of completing the radar on Pulau Malawali to eliminate blind spots and enhance security controls in the region, making it a top priority for the ministry.

The government has already allocated RM88 million for the project's construction under the first rolling plan of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), reflecting the pressing need for this infrastructure. In addition, Saifuddin Nasution announced the approval for constructing six more General Operations Force (PGA) posts in the area, with implementation pending by the relevant agencies.

Saifuddin also pointed out that security-related projects require a different evaluation approach than typical development projects. He stated that such initiatives should not be judged solely on key performance indicators (KPIs) but should be prioritized based on their security impact. Delays in these projects could potentially weaken border security control, he warned.
