Kuala lumpur: Three motorcyclists were killed and nine others injured in an accident involving 12 motorcycles and three cars on Jalan Jelapang-Ampang here early this morning. Ipoh district police chief ACP Muhammad Najib Hamzah said members of the public alerted police to the incident at about 3.35 am.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, initial investigations revealed that all the vehicles were travelling from Meru towards Tambun when the accident occurred. Two male motorcyclists, aged 19 and 20, were pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining serious injuries, while another 19-year-old victim was pronounced dead at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB).

Nine other male motorcyclists, aged between 19 and 25, sustained injuries of undetermined severity and were taken to HRPB for further treatment. Muhammad Najib stated that the three car drivers were uninjured, and added that police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police are appealing to anyone with information to contact the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Ipoh district police headquarters.
