Kota damansara: Thomson Hospital Kota Damansara (Thomson) has become the first hospital in Malaysia to install a next-generation integrated surgical energy platform in its operating theatres.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Thomson stated that the new technology enhances its minimally invasive surgical capabilities and improves the patient experience. As a multidisciplinary tertiary hospital, Thomson offers minimally invasive surgery across various specialties using laparoscopic, thoracoscopic (VATS), endoscopic, arthroscopic, and microsurgical approaches.
The hospital has expanded its surgical offerings with two advanced procedures: Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy Vestibular Approach (TOETVA) and laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis. TOETVA is a scarless thyroid surgery performed through the mouth, eliminating visible neck incisions. The laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis is a keyhole procedure that allows diagnosis and treatment through small incisions.
The hospital noted that the next-generation surgical platform combines multiple surgical energy technologies, providing surgeons with advanced technology that supports greater surgical precision and shortens procedure times. This integration of tissue dissection and vessel sealing on a single platform promotes more efficient surgical workflows, potentially reducing operating times, tissue trauma, and recovery time.
Thomson chief executive officer Dr. Savitha Dharan emphasized the hospital's goal to deliver comprehensive, outcome-driven surgical care. She highlighted that expanding minimally invasive surgical capabilities enables the multidisciplinary teams to tailor appropriate treatments for each patient, focusing on safety, precision, and improved patient outcomes.
