Thaipusam Temple in Kuala Selangor Requires Urgent Car Park Upgrades: Exco

Kuala selangor: The Sri Subramaniar Swamy Temple in Kuala Selangor is in need of additional funds to enhance its parking facilities due to a significant rise in the number of Hindu devotees attending the annual Thaipusam celebration.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, V. Papparaidu, the Selangor Exco for Human Resources, Poverty Eradication, Orang Asli and Minority Affairs, stated that the temple has become a major center for the Thaipusam festivities in the state, second only to Batu Caves. This status necessitates a focus on developing supporting facilities to accommodate the influx of devotees.

Papparaidu noted that Thaipusam holds considerable importance for Hindus across Malaysia, with large gatherings observed at both Batu Caves and Kuala Selangor. He emphasized the need for prioritizing infrastructure development at such large-scale celebration sites to ensure the comfort and smooth movement of the attendees.

He highlighted that the temple, while able to accommodate around 10,000 devotees at a time, faces challenges with inadequate parking facilities, which could lead to traffic congestion and double parking, especially during the Thaipusam celebration that attracts approximately 30,000 people.

To address these issues, Papparaidu plans to seek additional funding by engaging in discussions with the state government and reaching out to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari for financial support aimed at upgrading the temple's facilities in the future.
