Thailand SEA Games Medal Target Strategy To Be Unveiled In November

Kuala lumpur: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced that the national contingent’s total medal target for the 2025 Thailand SEA Games will be unveiled in November, focusing solely on the overall medal count rather than specifying targets by medal color.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the medal target will be established based on recommendations from experts at Nippon Sports Science University (NSSU) in Japan. The announcement will be made in collaboration with Malaysia’s National Sports Council (NSC) and National Sports Institute (NSI). Hannah stated, “What we will announce will no longer be about targets according to colour (gold, silver and bronze). Instead, it’s only for our overall medal target. this will be based on the proposals of the NSSU experts.”

NSC director-general Jefri Ngadirin previously indicated that Malaysia has a promising chance to earn more medals compared to the 2023 edition in Cambodia, which included numerous traditional sports events. He highlighted that Malaysia plans to send its best athletes to the Thailand SEA Games, scheduled for December 9-20, as part of the preparations for the 2027 games that Malaysia will host.

In addition to the SEA Games announcement, Hannah discussed sports development projects in Negeri Sembilan, revealing that RM144 million has been allocated for 15 projects, including sports infrastructure and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET). Of these projects, four have been completed, five are underway, and six are in the pre-implementation phase. Hannah emphasized the ministry’s commitment to ensuring infrastructure development across every state, with the application process being detailed in Parliament.
