Sungai petani: The dilapidated surau at Kampung Telok here drew the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who has allocated RM100,000 for its upgrade.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sungai Petani MP Dr Mohammed Taufik Johari said the surau upgrade project will be coordinated by the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department and is expected to be completed within four months.
He said the surau, which was built in 2008, is in poor condition, with a leaking roof and ceiling and an outdated electrical system. ‘The surau’s condition had caught the Prime Minister’s attention, and he had approved RM100,000 for its repairs,’ he told reporters after inspecting the surau, near here, today.
He said the surau, which can hold 300 worshippers, has been in serious disrepair for over three years and expressed hope that the upgrade would bring greater comfort to the villagers.
In a separate development, Dr Mohammed Taufiq stated that the government’s BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) programme is widely regarded as the most effective way to curb fuel subsidy leakages. He said the government had considered feedback from various stakeholders when implementing the programme and is ready to refine the BUDI95 system if necessary.
