Kuala Terengganu:Small dormitories for students have been found within office premises by the Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) during an operation known as Ops Sepadu Premis Sarang Burung in Kuala Terengganu.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the inspection revealed that the second floor of the premises had been modified into nine small rooms serving as student dormitories. These modifications were not compliant with several building safety regulations.

JBPM director Nor Mahathir Muhammad stated that the premises, along with three other locations inspected, were originally approved as office buildings but were being used as dormitories for workers and students. The operation focused on identifying illegally modified shop or office spaces and ensuring compliance with building and fire safety regulations.

The integrated operation took place at four sites: Jalan Masjid Abidin, Jalan Engku Pengiran Anom 2, Jalan Engku Sar, and Jalan Sultan Zainal Abidin. Notices will be issued to the owners or tenants of the premises to address the identified fire hazards. If they fail to comply within the stipulated time, a second inspection will be conducted.
