Terengganu Athletes Awarded RM1.56 Million in Victory Incentives

Terengganu:The Terengganu government has awarded a total of RM1.56 million in victory incentives to 203 athletes who represented the state at the 2026 Selangor Malaysia Games (SUKMA) and Para Malaysia Games (Para SUKMA).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Youth, Sports and Non-Governmental Organisations Committee chairman Hishamuddin Abdul Karim stated that the incentives serve as a token of appreciation for the athletes' contributions and efforts in bringing honor to Terengganu.

This year, Terengganu improved its position in SUKMA, advancing from fifth place in 2024 to third, trailing only Selangor and the Federal Territories. The state secured a total of 123 medals, including 43 gold, 44 silver, and 36 bronze. In Para SUKMA, Terengganu finished 10th with seven gold, 11 silver, and 19 bronze medals.

To acknowledge these achievements, the state government has increased the victory incentives to RM5,000 for gold medalists, RM3,000 for silver, and RM1,500 for bronze in both SUKMA and Para SUKMA events.

Hishamuddin also mentioned that the Terengganu contingent plans to start preparations earlier and enhance its training programs to perform even better at the 2028 SUKMA in Kelantan. The aim is to improve from this year's top-three finish to potentially becoming champions.

Additionally, at the incentive presentation ceremony, the state government distributed RM117,200 under the National Representative Scheme (SWARA) and Victory Award Scheme (SHAKE) to 34 Terengganu athletes who represented Malaysia at the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.
