PETALING JAYA: Ten men were arrested after they were believed to have impersonated policemen and then robbed motorcyclists off their personal items and motorcycles on highways and main roads in Selangor. State deputy police chief Datuk S. Sasikala Devi stated that the suspects, aged between 25 and 39 years, were detained in Petaling Jaya at 5 am on Oct 20. They were employed as tow truck drivers, deliverymen, and technicians.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, investigations revealed that the suspects conducted their criminal activities during the nights and early mornings. They impersonated police personnel using two motorcycles. At a press conference at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters, Sasikala Devi explained that the suspects would stop motorcyclists under the guise of conducting inspections before stealing their personal belongings and motorcycles.
As a result of the arrests, police seized seven motorcycles. Sasikala Devi disclosed that preliminary investigations found seven out of the ten
men had 26 previous criminal records, with 10 involving drug cases, and two of them tested positive for drugs. The arrests have led the police to believe they have solved 10 robbery cases in Selangor, and all suspects have been handed over to the Sungai Buloh police headquarters for further investigations under Section 395/170 of the Penal Code.
In a separate operation, police dismantled the Bulat Gang, arresting three members aged between 19 and 43 years, believed to be involved in motorcycle thefts during Op Lejang around Jeram, Sungai Buloh from Oct 21 to 25. During the operation, police seized 14 motorcycles and arrested a foreigner suspected of purchasing a stolen Honda EX5 motorcycle for RM150 from one of the suspects.
Sasikala Devi further reported that initial investigations showed the Bulat Gang typically monitored their targets a day before committing the thefts, particularly focusing on motorcycles parked along sidewalks or in apartment areas. The arrest of the Bulat Gang has helped solve 13 moto
rcycle theft cases in Selangor, involving an estimated loss of RM32,000.
