TeamLab Planets TOKYO Introduces Interactive Soft Sculpture Artwork

Tokyo:Art museum teamLab Planets TOKYO, developed by the art collective teamLab, has unveiled a new interactive artwork titled Body of Waves. This installation invites visitors to engage with the artwork physically, as their entire bodies become part of the experience.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, as visitors walk across the large, soft, and flexible sculpture, their feet sink into it, altering its shape. This movement causes ripples to flow through the entire sculpture, allowing visitors to feel each other's presence within the space. Additionally, lights cascade down the sculpture, adapting to its continuously changing form.

The artwork is designed not to be observed from the outside but to use its physical nature to connect the bodies of those immersed in it. Alongside this new installation, two existing artworks, Existence in the Flow Creates Vortices and Waterfall of Ephemeral Crystals, have been updated. Existence in the Flow Creates Vortices allows vortices to form as visitors climb against a simulated water flow, while Waterfall of Ephemeral Crystals features light particles cascading to emulate a waterfall, inspired by an earlier work on a natural waterfall in Shikoku.

TeamLab Planets describes itself as a museum where visitors traverse through water, interacting with artworks that respond dynamically to their presence. Located in Toyosu, Tokyo, the museum operates daily from 8 am to 10 pm, with last admissions an hour before closing.
