Storm Victims in Larut, Matang, and Selama Remain at 55

Accra:The number of people affected by the recent storm in the Larut, Matang, and Selama districts stands at 55 individuals from 20 families. They continue to be housed at the Temporary Evacuation Centre, Sekolah Kebangsaan Matang, which has been operational since last Wednesday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Perak State Disaster Management Committee has reported that residents affected by the storm hail from Kampung Changkat Baru Matang, Kampung Teluk Kertam, Kampung Melawati, and Kampung Hujung Matang. The Committee noted that while water levels are receding, there is no requirement to open additional evacuation centers, and the number of evacuees remains unchanged.

The LMS Civil Defence Force is conducting periodic monitoring in flood-prone areas within the district. In Kampung Kubu Hilir, Mukim Bukit Gantang, rising river water levels were observed, but no overflow occurred, although a village road and a house were affected. The weather in the area is reportedly stable.

In Mukim Batu Kurau, inspections revealed that in areas like Kampung Ulu Sepetang, water levels are decreasing, with only light drizzle recorded. The storm last Wednesday caused significant damage, including to more than 35 houses, and led to incidents of fallen trees and damaged roofs.
