Kuala lumpur: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on educators to approach challenges and criticism with an open heart, particularly when it comes to addressing issues concerning students. He highlighted the intrinsic link between education and personal character, stating that any arising problems are often associated with schools, placing a burden on teachers.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Anwar emphasized that social problems impacting children can lead to disruptions in schools. He pointed out that issues such as moral shortcomings are a reflection of societal problems at large. Despite this, he encouraged teachers to view criticism constructively, aiming to uplift and nurture a better generation.
Anwar made these remarks during the 55th National Teachers' Day Celebration at Casuarina Hotel, which was also graced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, and Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad. He noted that the Ministry of Education is devising a framework that marries technological and economic advancements, such as AI, with the preservation of cultural and ethical values.
He stressed the importance of not being left behind in technological progress while maintaining Malaysian human values and societal morals. Anwar introduced the concept of "Excellence Without a Soul," underscoring that academic success must be accompanied by moral and social consciousness.
Additionally, Anwar shared a personal anecdote about his close bond with his former teacher, the late Tan Sri Rahman Arshad, showcasing the profound respect and impact educators have on their students. During the event, he presented awards recognizing educational excellence, including the Best School in the World award to Sekolah Kebangsaan Putrajaya Presint 11 (1), the National Education Leadership Award to Dr. Ahmad Rafee Che Kassim, and the National Teacher Award to Abdul Rasid Bakar.
