Taxpayers Urged To Prepare Early For E-Invoicing, Says Amir Hamzah

Kuala lumpur: Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan has urged taxpayers not to delay or wait until the last minute to implement e-invoicing, but to make early preparations to ensure a smooth transition. He said a proactive approach would help businesses and organisations better manage the shift towards a digital tax system.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Amir Hamzah emphasized that the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRB) is prepared to engage with taxpayers to address any challenges or issues that may arise during the transition. He made these remarks during the opening of the National-Level Mega e-Invoice Roadshow Series 2/2025. Amir Hamzah also encouraged industry players, trade associations, professional bodies, and businesses to provide constructive feedback to improve e-invoicing implementation for the benefit of the public.

He highlighted the importance of awareness and educational programmes on e-invoicing conducted by IRB, especially for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), ahead of the new implementation phase set to begin in 2026. The roadshow is part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness and understanding of e-invoicing.

Amir Hamzah announced that the government has approved an extension of the mandatory e-invoicing rollout through two new phases: Phase Four for businesses with annual sales of RM1 million to RM5 million, starting January 1, 2026, and Phase Five for businesses with annual sales up to RM1 million, starting July 1, 2026. He also noted that the exemption threshold for e-invoicing has been raised from annual sales below RM150,000 to below RM500,000, benefiting micro and small businesses.

To date, more than 102,800 taxpayers have implemented e-invoicing, issuing over 563 million e-invoices, indicating strong uptake of the government’s digital tax initiative.
