Tandop Hawker Site Upgrade to Aid 74 Traders

Alor setar: The upgrade project for the Tandop Hawker Site here, carried out by the Implementation Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister's Department, will benefit 74 daily traders, including those operating during Ramadan.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Co-chair of the Kedah State Development Action Council, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, mentioned that the Alor Setar Mayor requested the hawker site upgrade at the end of 2025. The Mayor of Alor Setar, Datuk Abdul Gafar Yahya, aims to reopen the site as the Tandop Ramadan Bazaar during this year's fasting month, expected to start on February 19.

The Kedah State Federal Development Office was appointed to implement the upgrade, completing the project with a total allocation of RM200,000, as stated at the handover ceremony for roadside and related works in the Tandop Baru Industrial Area yesterday.

Saifuddin Nasution, who is also the Home Minister, detailed that the upgrade includes a 170-metre-long, six-metre-wide concrete floor and related works, aiming to create a stable, safe, and organised hawker site. The site will cater to daily traders, 171-night market vendors every Tuesday, and 130 Ramadan bazaar stalls. The project seeks to enhance facilities and comfort for traders and the public, supporting a cleaner, more organised, and welcoming hawker environment.

He emphasized that Tandop is a strategic economic hub in Kedah, featuring commercial and retail areas, highway access, housing, light industry, and trade. This attracts small traders who steadily grow their businesses.
