Tan Chong Motor and SGM Wuling to Introduce TQ WULING Cars in Malaysia


Kuala Lumpur: Tan Chong Motor Holdings Bhd has signed an investment commitment agreement with SAIC GM Wuling Automobile Co Ltd (SGM Wuling) to launch the TQ WULING car brand in Malaysia.



According to BERNAMA News Agency, SGM Wuling is a prominent Chinese automotive company known for manufacturing electric cars and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, alongside internal combustion models, versatile people-movers, and commercial vehicles. The agreement was formalized by Tan Chong Motor Group CEO Daniel Ho, with SGM Wuling represented by PT SGMW Motor Indonesia President Tang Wensheng and its Commercial Director of Overseas Business and Engineering Centre, Sun Dazhi. Malaysia’s Transport Minister, Anthony Loke, was present to witness the signing ceremony.



Ho announced that the first model to be assembled under the TQ WULING brand will be the TQ WULING Bingo, a compact hatchback anticipated to be among the most affordable electric vehicles (EVs) in Malaysia. Scheduled for launch in the fourth quarter of 2025, the Bingo aims to provide a smart, efficient, and accessible mobility solution for urban drivers. Ho stated that the TQ WULING Bingo is expected to be priced below RM100,000, offering a competitive and affordable EV option for Malaysian consumers.



Tang highlighted that SGM Wuling’s cumulative production had reached 30 million units, with Wuling cars available in over 60 countries worldwide as of the previous year. He noted that the company has established production facilities in Malaysia, Indonesia, India, and Vietnam to bolster the global development of the Wuling brand. Tang expressed confidence that with strong support from the Malaysian government, SGM Wuling and Tan Chong Motor Group will effectively leverage their advantages in EV products, core technologies, local chains, and business innovation.
