Kuala Lumpur:A comprehensive study by Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has mapped out 268 job roles and 748 skills essential for the future of Malaysia's communications and multimedia sector.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the study highlights the need for roles such as Artificial Intelligence Engineer, Artificial Intelligence Ethics Officer, and Edge Computing Specialist in the telecommunications subsector, alongside the Head of Postal Inspectorate in the postal and courier subsector.

The identified skills encompass future networks, cybersecurity, cloud computing, data analytics, digital content creation, responsible AI use, and automation. Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan emphasized the importance of aligning talent development with economic and industry changes to maintain Malaysia's competitiveness.

He highlighted that the collaboration between TalentCorp and MCMC offers a clearer view of the industry's skills requirements, not only for the present but extending into the future. He believes a data-driven, industry-led approach is crucial for ensuring the workforce is equipped to meet evolving industry needs and seize emerging opportunities.

The study, named the Impact Study of Artificial Intelligence, Digital and Green Economy on Malaysia's Workforce for the Communications and Multimedia Sector, supports the development of the Communications and Multimedia Future Skills Framework (C and M FSF) by MCMC. This framework aims to align skills requirements, talent development, and career pathways with industry needs.

TalentCorp's group CEO, Biruntha Mooruthi, stated that the study forms a foundation for translating industry needs into targeted talent development measures. Through TalentCorp's Future Skills Talent Council, they aim to bring together various stakeholders to understand industry skills requirements and determine necessary actions.

The study proposed 29 strategic initiatives across three subsectors, focusing on developing future technology talent, upskilling in AI and digital skills, aligning education with industry needs, and promoting responsible technology adoption and green economy practices. TalentCorp and MCMC are enhancing collaboration among the government, industry, academia, and training providers to develop talent that aligns with the sector's evolving requirements.
