SWM Environment Launches Electric Motorcycles for Cleaner Bandar Hilir

Bandar hilir: SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Environment) has unveiled electric vehicle (EV) side-car motorcycles for use in public cleaning operations within the bustling tourist areas of Bandar Hilir to align with Melaka's Low Carbon City Agenda.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin, the corporate general manager of SWM Environment, stated that the introduction of these EV machines is a tactical move to curtail greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative also supports Melaka's goal of becoming a Green State by 2035. The EV motorcycles aim to enhance the efficiency of cleaning operations while minimizing noise pollution and carbon emissions, particularly in environmentally sensitive tourism and heritage zones. This effort underscores SWM Environment's ongoing dedication to promoting green technology and fostering the development of cleaner and more sustainable urban areas.

The EV motorcycles, which have been operational since April, are designated for solid waste collection and public cleaning, especially in areas with narrow routes and high activity. Mohd Norlisam emphasized that adopting EV machinery is an integral part of the company's strategy to innovate and sustain a more intelligent solid waste management system that meets modern technological advancements and urban demands.

He further added that this green technology initiative is expected to positively influence the environment by creating a cleaner and more pleasant atmosphere for both tourists and residents. The EV motorcycle operations run from Monday to Thursday between 7.30 am and 6 pm, and from Friday to Sunday, they are active in the Car Free Zone from 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm, ensuring that tourist areas maintain optimal cleanliness levels.

SWM Environment plans to continuously assess the effectiveness of the EV machinery with the intention of expanding its application to other key locations within their operational regions. Mohd Norlisam called on the public to contribute to the upkeep of public and tourist areas to preserve environmental health for future generations.
