SuperSiC Breaks Ground On New Penang Semiconductor Facility

Penang: SuperSiC (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Zhejiang Jingsheng Mechanical and Electrical Co Ltd (JSG), has broken ground for its new manufacturing facility in Penang Technology Park @ Bertam, marking a significant milestone in the company’s global expansion strategy.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), InvestPenang, and SuperSiC jointly stated that the facility underscores JSG’s commitment to advancing its globalisation strategy and establishing a key regional hub to support the Southeast Asian market. Penang’s mature semiconductor ecosystem, strategic geographic location, and abundant talent pool provide an ideal environment for the research and development (R and D) and production of compound semiconductor materials. This positions the company to deliver efficient and agile customer service with high responsiveness.

The project will cover a total area of 40,000 square metres and is slated to begin construction within the year. Upon completion of Phase 1, the facility is expected to reach an annual production capacity of 240,000 eight-inch silicon carbide wafers, significantly boosting JSG’s global supply capabilities.

MIDA chief executive officer Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid stated that SuperSiC’s groundbreaking marks a transformative moment in Malaysia’s semiconductor landscape. This investment exemplifies the deepening economic partnership between China and Malaysia, showcasing Malaysia’s growing prominence in global high-tech manufacturing. The facility aligns with the country’s New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, the Chemical Industry Roadmap (CIR) 2030, and the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS) 2030, thereby advancing Malaysia’s position in complex semiconductor production and high-value technological innovation.

MIDA particularly values this investment as it addresses a critical gap in the semiconductor ecosystem – advanced wafer fabrication. This project will serve as a catalyst, attracting further investments in this crucial sector and strengthening Malaysia’s position as Asia’s premier advanced manufacturing hub. With SuperSiC’s commitment, Malaysia is establishing a cornerstone for its technological future.
