Kuala lumpur: Sunway Velocity Mall is hosting a Nyonya Fest from May 19 to June 2, providing visitors with an immersive experience into the traditions and flavors of Peranakan culture as part of Visit Malaysia Year 2026. Inspired by the vibrant identity of Peranakan culture, the festival, held at the Vanity Atrium, showcases intricate craftsmanship and elegance synonymous with Nyonya traditions through a setting that blends Malay and Chinese influences, reflecting the cultural heritage of the Peranakan community.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sunway Velocity Mall stated that visitors will be greeted by Baba Nyonya signature tiles with intricate floral and geometric motifs, reminiscent of traditional Peranakan homes and shophouses. Complementing the setting are vintage-inspired wooden furniture, rattan accents, and ornate d©cor pieces that recreate the charm of a classic Nyonya household.
Throughout the festival, shoppers can explore vendors showcasing unique products from traditional kebaya fashion, beaded accessories, batik-inspired motifs, handcrafted d©cor, to heritage-inspired merchandise reflecting Peranakan heritage and contemporary interpretations of Nyonya culture. Food lovers can indulge in nostalgic flavors from Original Nyonya and My Moments Presents Heristaste, featuring traditional Nyonya kuih and heritage-inspired snacks made using recipes passed down through generations.
Visitors can also discover Joymom's cookies, known for their comforting homemade flavors and heritage-inspired recipes. Sunway Malls Kuala Lumpur Senior Director of Marketing Darren Chear mentioned that the Nyonya Fest was conceptualized to bring heritage closer to the community, especially to younger generations who may not have had the opportunity to experience Peranakan culture fully. The festival offers experiences that connect people through culture, traditions, and storytelling.
Adding to the festive atmosphere are weekly live cultural performances and interactive workshops held every weekend and public holidays. Guests can participate in hands-on activities such as The Great Nyonya Tile Painting Contest on May 23 and traditional craft workshops while learning about the artistry and traditions of the Peranakan community. Visitors can enjoy the Step Into Glam AI Photo Booth experience and redeem exclusive gifts through the Pesona Nyonya Redemption campaign. Shoppers who spend a minimum of RM450 in a maximum of two receipts are eligible for the redemption, featuring a Starbucks Keepsake Tumbler and a Nyonya Edition Sticker Pack.
