Sunway Malls Triumphs at PPK Malaysia Awards

Kuala Lampur:Sunway Malls secured four awards at this year's Malaysia Shopping Malls Association (PPK Malaysia) Awards, reinforcing its position in the country's shopping mall industry. Sunway Velocity Mall and Sunway Big Box Retail Park clinched Platinum awards in the Top Sustainability Practices category, while Sunway Velocity Mall and Sunway Pyramid received Gold and Silver awards respectively in the Best Experiential Marketing category.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sunway Malls' Group Managing Director, HC Chan, stated that these achievements reflect the group's commitment to developing malls that offer experiences, celebrate culture, engage communities, and promote sustainability. The ongoing Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign is generating momentum in the tourism and retail sectors, with malls playing a crucial role in showcasing Malaysia's rich culture, food, and experiences.

Established in 1984, PPK Malaysia received 101 submissions for this year's awards, with 74 submissions from 40 malls for Best Experiential Marketing and 27 submissions from 27 malls for Top Sustainability Practices. Under the Top Sustainability Practices category, Sunway Velocity Mall won Platinum for "Lights Out, Nature Shines: Sustainability in Motion," while Sunway Big Box Retail Park received Platinum for "Community Team Work Makes Dream Work: Malaysia's Largest Angpow Horse Replica."

In the Best Experiential Marketing category, Sunway Velocity Mall secured Gold for "Beyond Culture: Unmasking the Craft of Lion Dance," and Sunway Pyramid won Silver for its "Seindah Corak Aidilfitri" campaign.

Malaysia welcomed 42.2 million international visitors in 2025, an 11.2 percent increase year-on-year, while 21.2 million visitors were recorded in the first half of 2026. Shopping accounted for 37.4 percent of international visitor expenditure in 2024, amounting to approximately RM39.9 billion, while domestic tourism expenditure reached RM121.3 billion in 2025, with shopping contributing 36.9 percent.

As Visit Malaysia 2026 draws greater international attention to the country, Sunway Malls' recent recognition underscores the role malls can play in supporting international and domestic spending, showcasing Malaysian culture, and contributing to the wider tourism economy.

At the Awards Gala Dinner, Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Chiew Choon Man called for stronger collaboration among mall operators, retailers, hoteliers, and tourism stakeholders to strengthen Malaysia's shopping tourism ecosystem.
