Sungai rambai: The Sungai Rambai Bridge FT001, linking Kesang in Tangkak with Sungai Rambai in Melaka, was closed today after damage to its pillar structure made it unsafe for use.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johor Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh stated that inspections by the Public Works Department (JKR) indicated the damage was likely caused by strong river currents and the impact of drifting tree debris.

Mohamad Fazli further mentioned that there is also a possibility that erosion of the riverbed soil has occurred. In a Facebook post, he advised all road users, including all types of vehicles, to use the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin (AMJ) Highway as an alternative route.

He assured that further updates would be provided from time to time to keep the public informed about the situation and any developments regarding the bridge's status.
