Sungai Perak and Bukit Merah Dam Status Stable with Ongoing Monitoring Assured

Ipoh: The Perak state government has confirmed the stability of Sungai Perak and Bukit Merah Dam, as stated by Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, the State Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee chairman. Continuous monitoring efforts are in place to ensure public safety, sustainability of water supply, and irrigation needs.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, technical departments and agencies remain on alert, maintaining a vigilant watch over water levels. The current reading at Temengor Lake stands at 239.51 metres, which is deemed controlled and below the normal threshold of 240 metres. As of 8 am today, Bukit Merah Dam's water level is recorded at 7.437 metres, classified under an irrigation alert status.

Mohammad Nizar emphasized the state government's commitment to monitoring water supply developments, particularly for the agricultural sector's needs, focusing on padi-growing regions. Despite the absence of rainfall in most parts of Perak over the last 24 hours, vigilant monitoring continues, especially in downstream areas of Sungai Perak vulnerable to high tide phenomena.

Additionally, Mohammad Nizar reassured that all major dams along Sungai Perak, including Chenderoh, Kenering, Bersia, and Temengor, are in stable condition. The state government, with its relevant agencies, is closely monitoring data from stations in Parit and Teluk Sena within the Perak Tengah district to ensure uninterrupted operation of pump houses and raw water intake systems.

He urged the public to rely on verified information from official government channels and to adhere to instructions from authorities concerning any changes in weather or water levels.
