Arau: The Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, attended the Royal Banquet in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, at Istana Arau.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah arrived at Istana Arau at 8.57 pm, welcomed by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, and their son Syed Sirajuddin Areeb Putra Al-Haj Jamalullail. Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, Malay Rulers, and the Yang di-Pertua Negeri were also present to welcome the Sultan of Brunei.

The Raja of Perlis was in attendance with the Raja Perempuan of Perlis Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid. Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof also attended the banquet.

Bernama reported that the Sultan of Brunei and his delegation arrived at the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport in Alor Setar, Kedah, on a Royal Brunei Boeing 787-8 aircraft at 2.45 pm to attend the banquet. The Sultan is scheduled to leave for home from the airport at noon tomorrow.

The Silver Jubilee celebrations, which began today with the banquet, will continue until April 16, 2026. Events include the opening of the Padang Besar Roundabout by the Raja of Perlis on April 24, and the national-level Al-Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly 2025 from April 27 to May 2.

A Perlis government statement mentioned that the events would also feature a Royal Arts and Orchestra Performance on November 15. On April 26, a Trooping of the Colours by the Royal Ranger Regiment teams is scheduled for the morning, with a tattoo performance by the Malaysian Army at the Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium in Kangar at night.

The statement added that the Raja of Perlis, His Royal Highness, emphasizes the values of Ahli Sunnah Waljamaah, encouraging the people in the state to live according to the teachings of the holy Quran.
