TUMPAT: Police urged villagers to not be stubborn and resist evacuation when requested by authorities because a delay could make a major difference between life and death. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said police did not want the statistics of flood fatalities to increase following stubborn residents who refused to move. He said they need not worry about leaving their homes unattended because police will patrol the affected areas regularly.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mohd Yusoff emphasized the critical situation, citing a tragic incident involving a one-year-old baby who drowned in a flooded house. He relayed this information during a visit with the Raja Perempuan of Kelantan, Tengku Anis Tengku Abdul Hamid, who was distributing donations to flood victims at the temporary evacuation center in SK Padang Pohon Tanjung.

Mohd Yusoff further stated that the initial wave of flooding had already resulted in five fatalities. He expressed concern about the possibility of subsequent flooding w
aves, which could exacerbate the already dire conditions. Meanwhile, he reported that four roads in the Tumpat area have suffered severe damage, specifically identifying Jalan Jubakar Pantai-Taman Seri Bayu; Jalan Sungai Tapang-Jalan Jubakar Pantai; Jalan Utama Kampung Tujuh; and Jalan Kampung Baru Nelayan as the most affected.

Additionally, two houses were reported to have collapsed due to erosion caused by rapid water currents, transforming the area into a landscape resembling a small river. On November 29, the state road near Taman Sri Bayu, connecting Tumpat with Pengkalan Kubor, was submerged and rendered impassable by rising waters at approximately 5 pm.

Earlier in the day, Tengku Anis visited the SK Padang Pohon Tanjung PPS, where she distributed food baskets and cash to 63 heads of households, assisting a total of 225 flood victims.
