KUANTAN: Commercial crime cases in Pahang, including online fraud, recorded a drop in total losses of RM81 million from January to October this year compared to RM87.9 million in the same period last year. Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman attributed this 7.8 per cent decrease to the prompt actions of fraud victims who reported scams immediately to the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) and police authorities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Yahaya emphasized the importance of victims promptly reporting scams to NSRC. He noted, “Therefore, I advise victims who are affected by (scams) to immediately report it to NSRC so that the accounts of the parties involved can be frozen. If they take quick action and are lucky, their money can be returned.” This advice was shared during the monthly assembly at the Pahang police contingent headquarters (IPD) compound.

Yahaya also mentioned that although there was a reduction in total losses, the number of investigation papers opened increased slightly to 2
,083 compared to 2,049 last year. This period saw a total of 1,605 arrests related to fraud, Ah Long loans, and other offences.

In addition to addressing commercial crime, Yahaya assured that the police were prepared to assist flood victims, with heavy rain forecasted for Pahang this month. He stated, “I have instructed each District Police Chief to conduct patrols and if flooding occurs, victims can be immediately rescued and placed in the 858 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) throughout the state.”
