Sarawak: The Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) Cash Disbursement Programme is being carried out at 20 locations across Sarawak to make it easier for recipients, particularly senior citizens, the infirm, and those living in rural areas, to receive assistance.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan stated that the programme not only facilitates registration and eligibility checks but also enables eligible recipients to receive cash assistance directly. He emphasized the challenges faced by some STR recipients who do not have bank accounts and introduced alternative methods to ensure the assistance reaches them.

Amir Hamzah highlighted that elderly or unwell recipients could appoint a representative to collect the assistance on their behalf, provided the necessary documents and supporting evidence are submitted. He also encouraged recipients to open bank accounts to facilitate future aid disbursements, noting that some recipients live in remote areas where traveling to town incurs additional costs.

The STR and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) initiatives have benefited nearly 900,000 people in Sarawak. The STR is a targeted cash assistance programme provided by the MADANI Government to more than eight million low and middle-income recipients to help ease the cost of living.
