Storm Impact in Larut, Matang, and Selama Districts Stabilizes

Matang:Larut, Matang, and Selama The number of people affected by the recent storm incident in the Larut, Matang, and Selama districts remains steady at 55 individuals from 20 families as of tonight.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Perak State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat stated that all victims are currently housed at a Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) located at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Matang, where they have been since last Wednesday.

The storm-affected residents hail from the villages of Kampung Changkat Baru Matang, Kampung Teluk Kertam, Kampung Melawati, and Kampung Hujung Matang. Monitoring by the LMS Civil Defence Force indicates that water levels are decreasing, and there is no current necessity to open additional evacuation centers.

The LMS APM District Operations Control Centre is maintaining periodic checks on flood-prone areas within the district. In Kampung Kubu Hilir, Mukim Bukit Gantang, river water levels have risen but not overflowed, although a village road and a house have been submerged. Weather conditions in the area are reported to be stable.

In Mukim Batu Kurau, security checks in Kampung Ulu Sepetang and along the SK Ulu Sepetang route show receding water levels, with only light drizzle recorded.

Previously, over 35 houses sustained damage due to the storm, which was marked by heavy rain and strong winds, affecting several areas around the LMS district last Wednesday afternoon. The storm also caused several roofs to be blown off and trees to fall in villages around Mukim Matang.
