Storm Causes Damage to 240 Homes in Anjung Bercham

Anjung bercham: About 240 homes in seven residential areas around Anjung Bercham were damaged after a storm accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds lasting nearly 90 minutes this afternoon. In a statement, the Kinta Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) reported that the incident occurred at 3.47 pm based on information received from the penghulu of Ulu Kinta sub-district (Tanjung Rambutan).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, three APM personnel were deployed to monitor the affected areas following the report. The affected locations included Dataran Tasek Timur 6, involving an estimated 177 homes; Hala Tasek Timur 1 and Lorong Bercham 19, with 22 homes each; Hala Tasek Timur 34 with 10 homes; Laluan Tasek Timur 15 with five homes; and Lintasan Tasek Timur 1 and Lintasan Tasek Timur 3, with two homes each.

The Ipoh City Council (MBI) also deployed a team to the affected areas at 5.05 pm to carry out clean-up works, including clearing fallen trees obstructing roads and posing safety risks to residents. The incident led to the collapse of several electricity poles in residential areas and along roads, prompting Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) to temporarily cut power supply to the affected areas as a safety measure.

Meanwhile, Dewan Datuk Ahmad Said has been placed on standby as a temporary relief centre if needed, and the Kinta district officer has instructed all relevant agencies to remain prepared for any eventuality. Continuous heavy rain lasting about one-and-a-half hours also caused flash floods in Kampung Tanjung, Simpang Pulai, affecting an estimated 60 houses.

The Operations Control Centre received a call from the village head at 7.56 pm requesting flood monitoring in the affected area. It reported that it is currently drizzling, with water levels showing a downward trend and continuing to recede. No temporary relief centre has been opened so far.
