Bukit mertajam: Steven Sim's adopted son, Lee Teck Qing, joined 19 other participants in distributing Jalur Gemilang to more than 300 KTM Komuter passengers during a patriotic outreach programme on Saturday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme, organised by the Bukit Mertajam Young Women's Club in collaboration with the Bukit Mertajam Parliamentary Service Centre and the Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) Information Office, was held aboard a KTM Komuter service from Bukit Mertajam Station, Penang, to Sungai Petani Station, Kedah.

Sim, who is Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister and Bukit Mertajam Member of Parliament, stated that the initiative was conducted in conjunction with National Day 2026 to promote patriotism among Malaysians of different backgrounds and enhance ties between the community and government agencies.

He mentioned that the programme brought cheer to passengers during their journey and reflected the spirit of togetherness among Malaysians in celebrating the Merdeka month. The Jalur Gemilang held by passengers symbolised the unity that continues to thrive among the people.

Bukit Mertajam Young Women's Club chairman Nasuha Mohd Rodzuan expressed that the initiative aimed to brighten passengers' journeys while fostering a greater love for the country. She hoped the distribution of Jalur Gemilang would not only bring joy to passengers but also strengthen their sense of patriotism, ensuring this spirit continues to live in the hearts of all Malaysians.

Meanwhile, Lee, 22, described the programme as a meaningful experience that carried a message of unity to the community. He extended his gratitude to everyone involved in organising the activity and emphasized that although they were only distributing flags, it embodied the spirit of Satu Malaysia to the MADANI community. He also thanked YB Sim for his continuous support in their lives, acknowledging the impact of such initiatives.
