Selangor: Selangor Smart Agro Park (SSAP) has recorded sales of RM483,082 and total harvest output of 154.9 metric tonnes to date. Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation group chief executive officer Datuk Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi highlighted that Bernam Smart Agro was the main contributor, generating cumulative sales of RM392,482, driven largely by the production of MD2 pineapples.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, other key commodities cultivated commercially include Yankee pineapples, B9 papayas, and hybrid coconuts. Additionally, cash crops such as pumpkins, okra, brinjals, and bananas are cultivated to optimize land use and generate short-term income while waiting for the main crops to reach maturity.
The statement was issued following the visit of the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, to the PKPS Melon Project at SSAP in Sabak Bernam. Mohamad Khairil noted that 42.69 hectares, or 88 percent, of SSAP's 48.56-hectare site had been developed and planted.
SSAP serves as a platform for agropreneur development through commercial projects and community-based programs involving youths, the B40 group, asnaf, and the hardcore poor. Under the People's Income Initiative-Agropreneur Programme (IPRINTAN) Melosel in Sabak Bernam, 15 participants each manage a rain shelter house using fertigation technology to cultivate Selangor melons (Melosel).
Each participant manages 2,000 melon plants, bringing the total to 30,000. During the first production cycle from November 4, 2024, to January 25, 2025, participants recorded an average net income of RM4,583 each, while Grade A Melosel fetched a farm-gate price of RM8 per kilogramme.
Looking ahead, Mohamad Khairil stated that SSAP aims to establish Selangor as a hub for high-quality papaya seed production through a strategic partnership with Green World Genetics Sdn Bhd, to be implemented between 2026 and 2027. Moreover, a new 20.23-hectare area will be developed from 2029 to 2031 for the commercial production of hybrid coconut seeds and MD2 and SG1 pineapple suckers through PKPS subsidiary Kohijrah.
