Melaka:The Election Commission (EC) is set to convene a special meeting today to discuss crucial dates and matters concerning the upcoming Melaka state election. This meeting will take place at a hotel on Jalan Bendahara.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the meeting will be chaired by EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun and is scheduled to start at 10 am. A media conference will follow immediately after the meeting.
The Election Commission is expected to announce key dates related to the Melaka polls, which will include the issuance of the election writ, nomination and early voting dates, polling day, and the campaign period. Additionally, the EC will provide information on other preparations for the election.
The announcement follows a statement from Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh on September 22, declaring the dissolution of the Melaka Legislative Assembly effective September 23, which paves the way for the 16th state election.
In the 2021 state polls, Barisan Nasional (BN) secured 21 of the 28 seats contested, forming the state government. Pakatan Harapan (PH) won five seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) secured two.
