Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting Postponed Amid Cambodia-Thailand Tensions

Kuala lumpur: The Special ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting, intended to address the ongoing border tensions between Cambodia and Thailand, has been postponed, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced. The meeting, which was originally scheduled for tomorrow, has been delayed at the request of both nations.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Prime Minister Anwar stated that both Cambodia and Thailand had requested a slight postponement to ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place. "They asked for a slight postponement of the meeting. So, we are postponing it to ensure everything is in order," he told reporters. Despite the delay, the Prime Minister emphasized the critical nature of the situation and urged both countries to cease hostilities. He mentioned that he remains in regular virtual contact with leaders from both sides to keep abreast of developments.

The announcement was made while Prime Minister Anwar was addressing the media after launching the book "The Man Who Could Move Mountains: Reflections on the Social Activism of S.M. Mohamed Idris" at the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia. The event was attended by several notable figures, including Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, IAIS Chairman Prof Dr Maszlee Malik, and Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai.
