KUCHING: SME Corporation Malaysia plans to target more micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from Sarawak to receive benefits through programmes that will be implemented in 2025, in line with the aspirations of a more equitable and inclusive MADANI Economy framework.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chief Executive Officer Rizal Nainy stated that to facilitate the application process for MSMEs seeking assistance, they can utilise online applications through the MSME Integrated Rating and Incentive System (MyBPI), which was introduced this year. MyBPI has been recognised as a successful tool in enhancing access for MSMEs, earning acknowledgment as one of the bureaucracy reform projects during the MADANI Government’s 2-Year Programme and the recent National Convention on Civil Service Reforms.
Since 2021, SME Corp, an agency under the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development, has approved financial assistance amounting to RM17.6 million for 3,759 MSMEs from Sarawak. A significant init
iative under this scheme is the Tunas Usahawan Belia Bumiputera (TUBE) programme, which has provided grants worth RM3.5 million to 250 Sarawak entrepreneurs, representing 11 per cent of the total 2,275 youth entrepreneurs who have benefited.
Sarawak MSMEs also benefit from the Bumiputera Enterprise Enhancement Programme (BEEP), which aims to boost MSMEs’ competitiveness through integrated support including advisory services, technical support, training, and financial aid. Of the 983 MSMEs approved for financial assistance totaling RM121.9 million under BEEP 2.0, about four per cent, or 39 Sarawak MSMEs, have received financial assistance amounting to RM6.2 million.
The MADANI Micro Strengthening Programme (MADANI Micro), launched in 2023, has also provided substantial support, with 408 Sarawak micro enterprises receiving approval for RM4.6 million in financial assistance. Another programme, the Business Accelerator Programme (BAP), has granted approval amounting to RM3 million, showcasing strong participati
on from Sarawak MSMEs.
The MADANI Micro programme offers financial support to micro enterprises through grants, loans, and vouchers for MSME status registration via five main initiatives: Micro Business Grants, Micro Biz Financing, Micro Youth Business Grants@ TUBE, BEEP Plus Sabah and Sarawak, and MSME Status Voucher. Additionally, non-financial assistance programmes with high participation include the Micro Entrepreneur Business Development Programme and the Rating and Accreditation Programme.
