SME Bank’s Economic Outlook Predicts Steady Policy Rate Amid 4.3% GDP Growth for Malaysia

Kuala lumpur: Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Berhad ('SME Bank') has released its latest report on Malaysia's Economic Outlook 2026, forecasting that Bank Negara Malaysia ('BNM') is expected to maintain the Overnight Policy Rate ('OPR') at 2.75% throughout 2026. This stability in monetary policy aims to support Malaysia's economic growth, which is projected to reach 4.3% despite uncertainties on the global stage.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, domestic growth momentum is anticipated to remain strong, driven by sustained activities in the micro, small, and medium enterprise ('MSME') sector and ongoing policy support. These factors are expected to mitigate the impact of external challenges, such as rising protectionism and geopolitical tensions. The growth outlook presented in the report aligns with projections from the Ministry of Finance Malaysia, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank.
