Kuala Lumpur:Newly crowned Asian Games women's singles squash champion S. Sivasangari has set ambitious goals of becoming the world number one and winning Olympic gold after defending her title at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Games.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sivasangari, currently ranked world number five, secured her victory against India's Anahat Singh in the final, which also earned her a spot in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. This achievement was significant for her, marking a step towards her dreams and motivating her to work harder.

Sivasangari, originally from Kedah, plans to focus on excelling in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Tour to improve her ranking, aiming to break into the top three by the season's end. She expressed her determination to perform well in upcoming tournaments and eventually reach the pinnacle of the world rankings before pursuing Olympic success.

Her recent victory allowed her to retain the title she first won in Hangzhou in 2022, building on her silver medal performance at the Jakarta-Palembang 2018 Asian Games. Despite the increased pressure of being the top seed, she was pleased with her ability to manage her emotions and maintain her focus throughout the competition.

Retaining the gold medal was crucial for Sivasangari as it demonstrated her capability to compete with Asia's leading squash players.
