Kuala Lumpur:The national men's 4x100-meter relay team is preparing for the possibility of competing without star sprinter Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games due to an injury he sustained yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Danish Iftikhar Muhammad Roslee, a sprinter on the team, stated that they remain focused and ready to compete, with several runners on standby if Azeem is unable to participate. The potential replacements include Pengiran Aidil Auf Hajam, Muhammad Haziq Mohamad Akhir, Mohamad Armin Zahryl Abd Latif, and Muhammad Umaira Subri.

Danish emphasized the team's determination to succeed despite Azeem's uncertain status. He mentioned that doctors are continuing their assessment of Azeem's condition, and an update is expected soon. "We are all praying that his injury is not serious," he added.

In the event Azeem is unable to compete in the 4x100m mixed relay, Danish confirmed that Pengiran will take his place. Reflecting on his own experience at the Asian Games, Danish described it as valuable, having raced against some of Asia's top sprinters in the men's 200m. He noted the competition motivates him to enhance his capabilities and improve his personal best. Danish recently advanced to the final after clocking 20.76 seconds in his semi-final heat.
