SIRIM Unveils ESG Readiness Roadshow to Boost Malaysian Industrial Sustainability

Kuala lumpur: SIRIM Bhd today launched the ESG Readiness Roadshow, Personnel Certification Programme, and Sustainability Report Advisory Services as part of the MADANI Sustainability Roadmap. This initiative is focused on enhancing the adoption of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices among Malaysian industries.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the programme is aligned with the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030 and the Government’s MADANI agenda. It aims to promote sustainable industrial development and bolster the competitiveness of Mid-Tier Companies (MTCs) and SMEs, particularly in the manufacturing sector and related fields integrated into international supply chains.

SIRIM, in its statement, highlighted that the programme offers technical guidance, capacity building, and certification to help organisations seamlessly integrate ESG into their core operations. The goal is to transform ESG from a compliance requirement into a catalyst for sustainable and profitable growth. This initiative is designed to empower Malaysian companies to become ESG-Ready and attain a competitive edge globally.

The programme addresses industry challenges, such as limited in-house ESG expertise and the high cost of external consultancy. SIRIM’s structured approach provides practical, cost-effective support, including guidance on preparing sustainability reports in line with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, enhancing credibility with investors and strengthening supply chain partnerships.

To facilitate this transition, eligible organisations can apply for the ESG-NIMP Grant Programme, offering 80 per cent government funding with a 20 per cent company co-contribution. The grant targets SMEs and mid-tier companies, including exporters and firms in high-emission sectors, to implement effective ESG practices. Participants will receive specialised training and certification for ESG personnel, along with advisory support to achieve formal ‘ESG-Ready’ status.

The launch was officiated by Dr Mohd Bakri Jali, Covering Chief Executive Officer of SIRIM Academy, representing Acting President and Group Chief Executive Officer of SIRIM, Nik Sazali Nik Hussin. SIRIM Bhd, a trusted partner in quality, innovation, and technological advancement in Malaysia, is wholly owned by the Minister of Finance Incorporated and operates under the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI). It has supported national industrial development for over five decades.
