Sipitang Flood Evacuees Double Overnight as Heavy Rains Persist

Sipitang: The number of flood evacuees at two relief centres in Sipitang surged to 195 people from 93 families this morning, marking a significant increase from the 91 people from 43 families recorded yesterday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that all evacuees are residents of 14 villages in Sipitang that have been affected by the flooding. The rising water levels of Sungai Mengalong, due to continuous heavy rainfall since Tuesday evening, have exacerbated the situation and led to the evacuation.

The Secretariat detailed that the relief centre at Dewan Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Berempah is currently housing 93 individuals from 45 families. Meanwhile, Dewan Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Padang Berempah is accommodating 102 people from 48 families. The situation remains critical as authorities continue to monitor the water levels and provide necessary assistance to those displaced by the floods.
