SFV Produces Over 1,000 Tonnes Of Agricultural Produce To Boost Selangor’s Food Security

Kuala lumpur: Selangor Fruit Valley (SFV) has produced over 1,000 tonnes of various types of fruits and agricultural produce so far this year to support efforts to strengthen the state's food security.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS) chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi stated that the output includes various fruits like durian and rambutan, alongside corn. The total production is expected to continue increasing until the year's end. SFV focuses on maximizing the use of its entire 1,000-hectare site without setting specific production targets for individual commodities.

Throughout the previous year, SFV recorded revenue of RM7 million from agricultural activities, agrotourism, and entrepreneur participation, along with a profit of RM1.5 million. The success has prompted the state government to task PKPS with spearheading the food security agenda through Sel Agro Solution. One of the key initiatives is the development of the Selangor Food Warehouse, designed to supply food for three months during disruptions caused by disasters or crises.

Commenting further, Mohamad Khairil mentioned that PKPS is developing approximately five acres of land with rare fruit species such as sentul, rambai, kundang, keranji, cermai belanda, and belimbing buluh. This project is part of research and conservation efforts in collaboration with the Forestry Department, aimed at studying the cultivation suitability in previously encroached forest areas and exploring niche market opportunities for local fruits.

In addition to strengthening the agrotourism sector, PKPS plans to establish a glamping site by the SFV lake, expecting completion by mid-2027, subject to local authority approval. A Vanilla Cafe, featuring products developed through ACE research, is anticipated to open by October, adding another attraction for SFV visitors. These developments align with PKPS' efforts to position SFV as both a food production hub and an agro-tourism destination, attracting more local and international visitors.
