Sepak Takraw Asian Cup: Malaysia, Thailand Set Up Regu Title Showdown

Malaysia: Malaysia marched into the final of the regu event with a convincing 2-0 semi-final win over Vietnam in the Sepak Takraw Asian Cup 2025 Championships at the Titiwangsa Stadium here today. Tonight, the Malaysian squad under the guidance of coach Ahmad Mohd Zain will face arch-rivals Thailand, who downed India 2-0 in the other semi-final.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, earlier, Mohammad Syahir Rosdi (tekong), Farhan Adam (feeder), and Mohamad Azlan Alias (killer) showed that they were a class above their Vietnamese rivals with a 15-8 win in the first set. In the second set, Muhammad Haziq Hairul Nizam was brought in to replace Mohammad Syahir and, despite Vietnam giving a sterner fight, the Malaysian regu managed to see them off 15-10.

“We came under pressure against Vietnam but, thankfully, we managed to overcome them to set up a title showdown against Thailand. They will surely be seeking revenge for their defeat in the World Cup last year. I will always be ready irrespective of whoever is chosen by the coach to be the first-choice tekong tonight,” said Mohammad Syahir.
