Selgate, MTT to Develop Balik Pulau’s Maiden Private Specialist Hospital

Selgate: Selgate Corp Sdn Bhd, through its healthcare arm, Selgate Healthcare Sdn Bhd, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MTT Properties and Development Sdn Bhd to build a private specialist hospital in Balik Pulau, Penang.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Selgate Corp group chief executive officer Datuk Noor Hisham Mohd Ghouth stated that the Selgate Specialist Hospital Pulau Pinang is expected to be completed by 2028. The hospital will introduce approximately 172 beds and offer 31 specialties to its healthcare operations, contributing significantly to the region’s medical facilities. The construction of the hospital will cost RM130 million, and its strategic location near Penang International Airport will ensure easy access for international patients.

Noor Hisham emphasized that Selgate aims to be a prominent private healthcare operator in Malaysia, focusing on providing affordable quality healthcare and addressing underserved areas. The Selgate Specialist Hospital Pulau Pinang is part of Selgate’s larger vision to establish eight hospitals nationwide by 2030, with the first two hospitals in Rawang and Sepang (Selangor) scheduled to open in 2023.

The MoU signing with MTT group chairman Datuk Seri Kenny Ong Kean Lee was attended by Penang Youth, Sports and Health Community chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen. Noor Hisham highlighted the collaboration as a mutual commitment to delivering healthcare excellence. MTT Properties will lead the development and leasing of facilities, while Selgate Healthcare will manage operations, ensuring the hospital becomes a beacon of care and excellence.

Noor Hisham also mentioned that the project further cements Selgate’s dedication to enhancing healthcare access and bolstering Penang’s status as a healthcare tourism destination. This development coincides with Selgate’s 10th anniversary, marking a decade of growth guided by a mission to provide compassionate, accessible, and innovative medical services.

Meanwhile, Ong revealed that MTT Properties has allocated 2.02 hectares of its land for its inaugural venture into healthcare in Botanica.CT. Ong noted that the growing township in Balik Pulau currently lacks a private specialist hospital, relying solely on the Balik Pulau General Hospital to serve local residents. The new hospital will cater to the healthcare needs of the township and neighboring communities.

Ong added that the Selgate Specialist Hospital Pulau Pinang will complement Eden@Botanica CT, an integrated senior living resort in Penang. Eden@Botanica CT aims to offer a holistic and supportive environment for seniors, combining comfortable living spaces with personalized care services. The partnership with Selgate Healthcare represents a significant step towards making Botanica.CT a fully self-sustaining township.

MTT is the master township developer of Botanica.CT.
