Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), a leading global wealth fund with assets exceeding US$1 trillion, is committed to increasing its investments in Malaysia, with a focus on value creation in the country’s various sectors.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz highlighted that ADIA, an established investor in Malaysia, is particularly interested in the transformation of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd. (MAHB). The fund’s extensive global investment portfolio includes significant stakes in infrastructure, health, and energy sectors, showcasing its influential role in these industries. In addition to airports in the UK and France, ADIA’s investments span Khalifa Port in the UAE, logistics infrastructure in India, and energy projects in the US.
The minister, accompanying Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on a three-day visit to the UAE, met with ADIA’s top management in Abu Dhabi. The discussions aimed to bolster strategic investment cooperation between Malaysia and the UAE. The meeting involved key figures such as Sheikh Hamed Zayed Al Nahyan, ADIA’s managing director, along with Khalil Foulathi and Mohamed Al Ameri, who expressed strong interest in Malaysia’s investment opportunities.
ADIA’s investment approach in Malaysia aligns with the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) and the MADANI Economy framework, reflecting its commitment to sustainable growth. This includes collaboration with Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) on MAHB’s privatization and investments in major infrastructure projects that support Malaysia’s development.
Tengku Zafrul emphasized that ADIA’s involvement underscores confidence in Malaysia’s investor-friendly policies, which promise long-term benefits for the population. The strategic relationship with ADIA aims to position Malaysia as a premier destination for high-quality investments, enhance economic competitiveness, create job opportunities, and advance economic development.
In addition to discussions with ADIA, the prime minister and Tengku Zafrul also engaged with other UAE sovereign wealth funds, Masdar and Mubadala, to explore further collaboration opportunities.
