Selangor Unveils BRAIS 2026 to Enhance Support for Persons with Disabilities

Selangor: The Selangor government has launched the Bantuan Rahmah Insan Istimewa Selangor (BRAIS) 2026 programme, aiming to expand support for the welfare of persons with disabilities (PwDs) in the region.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, State Women Development and Social Welfare Committee chairman Anfaal Saari announced that the initiative, under the Yayasan Insan Istimewa Selangor (YANIS), is a rebranded effort of the Bantuan Khas Anak Istimewa Selangor (ANIS). It aims to provide more comprehensive and impactful development for PwDs in Selangor. The BRAIS 2026 programme introduces enhancements like disability-friendly residential toilet facilities with aid of RM1,500, and assistance of RM1,200 for medication, supplements, and other special needs.

Anfaal stated that these additions are designed to improve the maintenance and comfort of facilities and basic healthcare needs for PwDs at home. The programme also raises the age limit for beneficiaries from 18 to 60 years, allowing adult PwDs to access assistance for equipment, medical needs, and therapy support. This was announced during a press conference following the launch of BRAIS 2026 and the HajiKids 2.0 programme.

Further elaborating, Anfaal mentioned that BRAIS 2026 will continue existing support, including assistance for therapy centre fees (RM1,200), special equipment (up to RM3,000), and special education school fees (RM120). The application process will be conducted online to expedite approvals and simplify matters for parents and guardians. Applications will be open from June 1 at 8.30 am until 5 pm on June 22 via the official website at www.yanis.org.my/brais.

In related news, Anfaal highlighted the HajiKids 2.0 programme, which celebrated 2,500 children aged between four and 12. This Islamic educational initiative uses practical simulation methods and interactive visual technology to provide an immersive learning experience on the haj pilgrimage. The programme reflects inclusivity, with YANIS sponsoring the participation of 35 special needs children from the YANIS Centre and 18 participants with cerebral palsy.

Anfaal also noted YANIS's plans for long-term strategic collaboration with leading animation company Warnakala Studios. This partnership aims to utilize popular digital ecosystems such as Didi and Friends to enhance public awareness through disability-friendly communication.
