Selangor: The Selangor government aims to build 200,000 affordable homes under its Rumah Selangorku Harapan and Rumah Selangorku Idaman policies through the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2). Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the initiative is intended to help more Selangor residents own a home.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, 64,188 units have been completed to date, while another 69,014 are under construction, bringing the total to 133,202 units. This was announced by Amirudin Shari during the tabling of the RS-2 at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting. The state government also plans to increase the number of rental units under the Smart Sewa Scheme to 3,000 by 2030 for those who are not yet eligible for housing loans, with 30 per cent of tenants' monthly rental payments being set aside and later returned as a housing deposit.
Furthermore, Amirudin mentioned the development of the Selangor Dignified Living Index, a multidimensional benchmark that reflects the challenges of urban living. This index, created through the state's new statistical unit framework, will evaluate the effectiveness of household assistance and support programmes. Evaluations will be conducted every 12 and 24 months to monitor recipients' progress.
On the topic of public transport, the Selangor Mobility initiative will realign the implementation of the Demand Responsive Transit (DRT) service to improve connectivity to commercial areas. Public transport services' frequency will be increased to improve access to LRT and MRT stations, and the vision of creating walkable cities will be pursued with the construction of covered walkways at every station.
Additionally, the government will mandate that every Rumah Selangorku Harapan and Rumah Selangorku Idaman development include a bus stop to improve residents' access to public transport. This planning will incorporate technology to identify areas with high traffic volumes, public gathering points, and housing estates to assess the need for small bus stops in residential areas.
