Klang: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has voiced concern over a culture of slander and the spread of allegations, particularly on social media, which run counter to Islamic teachings. His Royal Highness said such acts should not be taken lightly as they have the potential to undermine ukhuwah and weaken unity among Muslims.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Sultan emphasized the dangers of spreading false news, distorting facts, or exaggerating minor issues, which could cause unease within the community. He made these remarks during the presentation of the instruments of appointment to 850 mosque nazirs and imams at Balairong Seri, Istana Alam Shah, Klang.
The Sultan reminded all nazirs, mosque, and surau committee members to verify information before sharing it, pointing out that the sin of slander is greater than that of killing. He assured that he is vigilant about developments in mosques and surau across the state and will not hesitate to take firm action if necessary.
Sultan Sharafuddin urged imams to enhance their religious knowledge and management skills to effectively administer mosques. He highlighted the role of imams as community leaders and mediators who should promote unity, mutual respect, and cooperation among the kariah members.
Furthermore, the Sultan emphasized the importance of maintaining good personal character and moral conduct for imams and nazirs, as they reflect the mosque institution. He warned against actions that could undermine the community's trust, using the Malay proverb, "kerana seekor kerbau membawa lumpur, habis semuanya terpalit," to illustrate his point.
The Sultan also expressed pride in the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque's achievement of welcoming over 100,000 visitors last year. He noted that this success demonstrates the dual role of mosques as centers of worship and Islamic tourism destinations for both Muslims and non-Muslims.
