Selangor Local Authorities Instructed to Enhance Public Transport Connectivity

Selangor: Selangor local authorities (PBT) have been instructed to review all connectivity facilities related to public transportation in the state, according to Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. The state government is prepared to allocate additional funds to ensure the provision of proper facilities, including more comfortable and safer pedestrian walkways for the public.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Seri Amirudin emphasized the importance of addressing connectivity issues without incurring high costs, aiming to advance the state's mobility goal of increased public transport usage. He urged PBTs to proactively tackle these concerns by engaging with council members and stakeholders, rather than relying solely on reports circulated via social media platforms like X and Threads.

The Menteri Besar's comments came in response to an interjection by Danial Al-Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid (PH-Batu Tiga) during the debate on the Selangor Resilience Strengthening Package in the State Legislative Assembly. Danial Al-Rashid highlighted connectivity issues between public transport, especially the LRT3, and its surrounding areas, which have gained attention on social media.

Amirudin announced that Ng Sze Han, the chairman of the state Investment, Trade and Mobility Committee, will be tasked with meeting public transport operators in Selangor to create a service mapping. This initiative aims to identify areas with connectivity gaps. Amirudin also mentioned the provision of subsidies to address these gaps but stressed that if operators do not manage their operating hours effectively, the subsidies will not yield the desired benefits.
